1Q12 ScoreKeeper Update - April 15, 2012

In March, Forbes released a list of American Cities with the Most Construction Underway. The list was compiled using building data for the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) to isolate the top 20 metros where the most money was being spent on new construction in 2011. Interestingly, five of the cities with the most construction starts also ended up on Forbes' Ten American Comeback Cities list, based on cities experiencing the highest net gains in the number of taxpayers. When overlaying both Forbes lists with EDR ScoreKeeper Phase I volume growth from 1Q11 to 1Q12, the cities highlighted by Forbes are experiencing recovery in Phase I volume quarter-on-quarter. Of the 20 metros listed, eight registered above average Phase I growth in the first quarter of the year, with Boston and Minneapolis appearing on both Forbes lists and showing 33% and 21% growth in Phase I volume, respectively.
